Polsinelli PC issued the following announcement on Nov. 21.
Rodney Lewis, a shareholder in Polsinelli’s Chicago office, has been honored by Crain’s Chicago Business as one of the 2018 “Most Notable Minority Lawyers.”
The second annual list celebrates 58 men and women who represent a cross-section of the Chicago-area legal community, many of whom have practiced with distinction for decades.
“This is a tremendous honor for Rodney, and also the firm,” said Polsinelli’s Director of Diversity and Inclusion J. Danielle Carr. “Polsinelli is proud to have Rodney as a member of the team. He is an accomplished practitioner, exemplifies the firm’s dedication to giving back to the community, and is a strong internal advocate for underrepresented attorneys.”
Lewis was among four Polsinelli attorneys invited to share their vision during the firm’s all-shareholder retreat earlier this month. “Rodney spoke to what all shareholders need to be doing to develop the next generation of firm leaders and much of the advice Rodney shared focused on the concept of inclusion,” Carr continued. “One tip that resonated the strongest was his challenge to everyone present to step out of their comfort zone and be intentional about making sure their matters are staffed by people who offer different perspectives and not just by those that remind them of themselves.”
Lewis is honored for being a leader not only within Polsinelli, but also across the legal profession and the city of Chicago. His colleagues are inspired by his dedication to community service, as he sits on the board of several nonprofits and regularly invites firm lawyers and staff to also volunteer and serve in various capacities.
Last year, Lewis was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Chicago Committee, which was formerly known as The Chicago Committee on Minorities in Large Law Firms. He has long been committed to supporting that organization’s mission of transforming the legal profession and advancing the careers of minority attorneys, and now plays a leading role in the group’s advancement.
In his practice, Lewis concentrates in litigating financial services and business disputes. He serves his corporate clients in complex commercial litigation matters in state and federal courts, including consumer class action defense under federal statutes and various state consumer protection laws.
He has successfully defended several clients in civil trials, defeated motions for class certification, won cases on summary judgment, obtained favorable results for clients through alternative dispute resolution processes, and negotiated favorable settlements for clients where appropriate. Honed by a decade of running his own business in the competitive entertainment industry, Lewis is dedicated to understanding his clients’ business and possesses project management skills that help him identify and implement unique strategies for clients.
