CHICAGO – A United Parcel Service employee alleges he was cut by a negligently wrapped sharp object and seeks damages from the seller.

Jake Coates filed a complaint on Nov. 27 in Cook County Circuit Court against Snow Joe LLC alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on July 6, 2017, the plaintiff was attempting to load or unload an object believed to be a sickle, which was shipped by the defendant, in the course of his work for UPS. The plaintiff alleges a very sharp portion of the sickle came out of its packaging and cut his hand.

The plaintiff holds Snow Joe LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly negligently wrapped the sickle in bubble wrap, failed to use appropriate packaging materials and failed to place warnings on the packaging.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against defendant for damages of more than $50,000 plus costs. He is represented by Richard Egan of Costello, McMahon, Burke & Murphy LTD in Chicago.
