CHICAGO – A Cook County woman alleges a Chicago law firm cost her thousands because the settlement in her divorce case has defects.

Maureen McGinnis filed a complaint on Nov. 21 in Cook County Circuit Court against Steven G. Wittenberg and the firm of Dussias Skallas Wittenberg Koenigsberger LLP, alleging legal malpractice.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff hired the defendants to represent her in divorce proceedings in 2012 and the matter was resolved in April 2013. She alleges she was "urged, pressured and coerced" into agreeing to a recommended settlement and that the settlement agreement has numerous defects.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants' actions cost her "hundreds of thousands of dollars" in lost income and other miscellaneous amounts.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendants for damages, costs of suit and other relief as may be just. She is represented by Thomas W. Gooch III of The Gooch Firm in Wauconda.
