CHICAGO – A Chicago long-term care facility is alleged to have failed to protect a resident from falls.

Moira Brownlee, as independent administrator for the estate of Bernard Heaggins, filed a complaint on Dec. 7 in Cook County Circuit Court against Southview Manor Nursing Center, alleging negligence and other counts.

According to the complaint, from August 2016 to January 2017, Heaggins was a resident at defendants' long-term care facility and was at a high risk for injuries during transfer and falls. The suit states in December 2016, he fell while he was being transferred and sustained a displaced subtrochanteric fracture of his left femur.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment of more than $50,000. She is represented by Daniel A. Goldfaden of Levin & Perconti in Chicago.
