CHICAGO – A mother is seeking damages from a Chicago hospital and others after her minor child was diagnosed with a severe brachial plexus injury.
Joi Lively-Greene filed a complaint on her behalf and on behalf of her child, on Dec. 10 in Cook County Circuit Court against Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, alleging medical negligence.
According to the complaint, on Jan. 17, 2017, Lively-Green went to Mercy for labor and delivery. The suit states during her delivery, a shoulder dystocia was encountered and the child was later diagnosed with a severe brachial plexus injury.
The plaintiffs allege the defendants failed to timely recognize the presence of a shoulder dystocia and failed to properly intervene to deliver the child.
The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seeks judgment of more than $50,000. They are represented by Larry R. Rogers Jr. of Power Rogers & Smith LLP in Chicago.
