CHICAGO – The mother of a Chicago woman who died in a freezer at a Rosemont hotel is seeking $50 million.
Tereasa Martin, as special administrator for the estate of Kenneka Jenkins, filed a complaint on Dec. 11 in Cook County Circuit Court against CPO Hospitality LLC, which does business as Crowne Plaza Chicago-O'Hare Hotel, and others, alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, on Sept. 10, 2017, Jenkins was found unresponsive inside a double walk-in freezer of the Crowne Plaza Chicago-O'Hare Hotel. The suit states she died from hypothermia and had been a guest at the hotel.
The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to secure areas that should have been closed off to the general public, failed to timely review security cameras and failed to adopt proper procedures for their employees and personnel.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks an amount of more than $50 million, plus costs, interest and attorney fees. She is represented by Jack Beam, Matthew M. Patterson and Ryan P. Timoney of Beam Legal Team LLC in Chicago.
