CHICAGO — A teacher is suing the Chicago Board of Education, citing alleged defamation and wrongful termination.

Alexandra Gianakos filed a complaint on Dec. 6 in Cook County Circuit Court against Sherry Pirtle, individually and in her capacity as principal of Alex Haley Academy, and Teisha Milsap, individually and in her capacity as a teaching assistant at Alex Haley Academy, and the Chicago Board of Education alleging the defendants made false and unfounded written and oral statements causing plaintiff to lose her employment.

According to the complaint, on July 2017, Alexandra Gianakos was hired as a probationary appointed teacher to teach Pre-K at Alex Haley Academy. Plaintiff claims during her employment she was subjected to multiple false statements made by defendants. The knowingly false statements imputed on plaintiff a lack of integrity and inability to perform her job responsibilities, causing her to be terminated.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants abused their privilege by making false statements regarding plaintiff that were unfounded, causing her to be subjected to an investigation by CBOE.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment for compensatory damages in excess of the minimum amount required for jurisdiction in Cook County. She is represented by Martin Dolan and John Carmody of The Dolan Law Offices in Chicago.

The Circuit Court of Cook County Case No. is 18-L-013126.
