CHICAGO – The wife of a former resident of a Northbrook long-term care facility alleges it failed to protect her late husband from falls.

Jane Ranz, as independent executor of the estate of John Ranz, filed a complaint on Dec. 10 in Cook County Circuit Court against Manorcare of Northbrook, over alleged violation of the Nursing Home Care Act.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 8, 2016, John Ranz was admitted to defendant's facility for skilled nursing services and the defendant knew he was at a high risk for falls.

The suit states Ranz suffered a fall Dec. 9, 2016, resulting in a spine fracture, which required hospitalization and surgical repair.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant failed to provide properly supervised nursing and personal care to meet Ranz's needs.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation of more than $50,000. She is represented by Jason M. Kellerman of Law Offices of Steven J. Malman & Associates PC in Chicago.
