Wrongful death suit filed against physicians, Rush University Medical Center

CHICAGO – An estate administrator has filed a wrongful death suit against two physicians and a medical center.

Cecilia Mowatt, as special administrator of the estate of Glenda Guerrero Mowatt, filed a complaint on Dec. 11 in Cook County Circuit Court against physicians Fatema M. Esmail and Lesley Schmaltz, and Rush University Medical Center, alleging medical negligence and wrongful death.

According to the complaint, Glenda Guerrero Mowatt died on Nov. 21, 2017, due to bilateral pulmonary emboli.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants carelessly failed to timely diagnose the patient's condition, failed to admit the patient for adequate blood pressure control and failed to order proper diagnostic tests.

The plaintiff seeks more than $50,000 and cost of suit. She is represented by Emilio Machado of Rubin, Machado & Rosenblum LTD in Chicago.
