Chicago's Boeing Co. is being sued by a resident of Indonesia over her husband's death in a plane crash in the Java Sea in October.
Sri Subekti, individually and as special administrator of the estate of Mahheru, filed a complaint on Dec. 11 in Cook County Circuit Court against Boeing alleging strict products liability and other counts.
According to the complaint, on Oct. 29, Lion Air was operating a Boeing 737 aircraft on a commercial flight from Jakarta, Indonesia, to Pangkal Pinang, Indonesia, when the aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff into the Java Sea at a high speed, causing passengers, including plaintiff's husband, to die. The suit alleges one of the causes of the crash was a flight control system that automatically steered the plane toward the ground.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment for all damages, court costs and other relief. She is represented by Austin Bartlett of BartlettChen LLC in Chicago.
