CHICAGO – A Chicago Heights care facility is alleged to have failed to timely transfer a former resident to an acute care facility.
Larry Martin, as independent executor of the estate of Loretta Martin, filed a complaint on Dec. 17 in Cook County Circuit Court against Prairie Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center LLC, Extended Care Clinical LLC and three nurses, citing the Nursing Home Care Act and Wrongful Death Act.
According to the complaint, Loretta Martin resided intermittently at Prairie Manor from December 2011 to December 2016. The suit states she was admitted to a hospital on Dec. 7, 2016, with pneumonia, septic shock and kidney disease and died Jan. 2, 2017.
The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to notify Martin's physician about changes in her condition, failed to timely transfer her to an acute care facility, and failed to ensure the nursing staff complied with the physician's orders.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendants for damages that will fairly compensate plaintiff. He is represented by Paul D. Richter and Caitlin K. Finnegan of Kralovec, Jambois & Schwartz in Chicago.
