CHICAGO – A Chicago resident alleges screws used in a medical procedure caused injuries.

Christopher Colon filed a complaint on Dec. 20 in Cook County Circuit Court against K2M Inc., and others, alleging negligence and other counts.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 20, 2016, the plaintiff underwent a multi-staged medical procedure to treat spinal cord compression, which included implanting K2M thoracic screws. He alleges after the surgery, he experienced neck pain from the surgical site.

On Aug. 6, he underwent a second surgery to remove the screws and implant new pedicle screws, the suit states. The plaintiff alleges the defendants' screws had fractured, but the second surgery did not remedy his neck pain.

The plaintiff alleges the products were not reasonably safe as intended and improperly manufactured.

The plaintiff seeks more than $50,000 for actual damages, special damages, consequential damages and punitive damages; costs and disbursements of this action; and other further relief the court may find just and proper. He is represented by James A. Karamanis and Aaron M. White of Barney & Karamanis LLP in Chicago.
