CHICAGO – A woman alleges her mother died while under the care of an Evergreen Park hospital.

Sheila A. Taylor, individually and as special administrator of the estate of Jessie Mae Tyler, filed a complaint on Dec. 17 in Cook County Circuit Court against Little Company of Mary Hospital, alleging medical negligence and wrongful death.

According to the complaint, on March 16, 2017, Tyler went to defendants' emergency department with complaints of bloody stool, abdominal tenderness and nausea, and was admitted. The suit states it was recommended Tyler not have any oral intake.

The suit states on March 22, 2017, a pureed diet was ordered for Tyler and she aspirated and suffered a cardiopulmonary arrest. The suit states Tyler suffered neurological injury and died five days later.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to order and ensure aspiration precautions were implemented on Tyler and ordered food by mouth when oral intake was contraindicated.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks more than $50,000. She is represented by Vivian Tarver-Varnado of AMB Law Group LLC in Chicago.
