CHICAGO – The next-of-kin of a woman who died last March is seeking damages from an Inverness long-term care facility over allegations of negligence.

Mary F. Balkonis, as independent administrator of the estate of Blanch G. O'Neill, filed a complaint on Dec. 27 in Cook County Circuit Court against Rosewood Care Center of Inverness, alleging negligence and other counts.

According to the complaint, O'Neill was a resident of Rosewood from January 2010 to March 2018. The plaintiff alleges O'Neill fell twice, and was later diagnosed with a neck fracture. The suit states she died in March 2018.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to protect O'Neill from neglect and failed to appropriately assess her fall risk.

The plaintiff seeks more than $50,000 plus attorney fees and costs. She is represented by Susan L. Novosad and Nicholas J. Emerson of Levin & Perconti in Chicago.
