Cary man alleges battery purchased at Vapor Place exploded while in pocket

CHICAGO – A Cary consumer alleges he was injured when a lithium-ion battery exploded while in his pocket.

John Wasilk filed a complaint on Jan. 2 in Cook County Circuit Court against LG Chem LTD, LG Chem America Inc.; and Vapor Place Inc. alleging negligence and strict product liability.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff purchased a lithium-ion battery from Vapor Place that was distributed or manufactured by the LG defendants. The suit states on Sept. 16, the plaintiff was injured when the battery he placed inside his pocket exploded and injured his leg. 

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to adequately and properly inspect the battery.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks an amount in excess of the minimum amount required for jurisdiction. He is represented by Robert J. Bingle of Corboy & Demetrio P.C. in Chicago.
