CHICAGO – A wrongful death suit has been filed against a hospital and several physicians over the 2017 death of a woman after a caesarean section.

Leverl Haywood, as independent administrator of Joy L. Jackson, filed a complaint on Dec. 31 in Cook County Circuit Court against Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center, alleging wrongful death and other counts.

According to the complaint, in September 2017, Jackson was admitted to Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center for the management of her labor and delivery. The suit states Jackson had a repeat caesarean section with a bilateral tubal ligation after delivery and was admitted at the post-anesthesia care unit.

The suit states while in the PACU, Jackson was restless with tachycardia and decreasing systolic blood pressures and was transferred to the intensive care unit. The suit states Jackson died the next day.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to recognize timely that Jackson was bleeding, failed to recognize she was in hemorrhagic shock and failed to insist she be examined by an attending physician.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks a sum in excess of the required jurisdictional limits. The plaintiff is represented by Susan J. Schwartz of Corboy & Demetrio PC in Chicago.
