CHICAGO — A woman's family is suing a nursing care facility, claiming wrongful death.

On Dec. 27, Joseph Furst filed suit in Cook County Circuit Court against Lee Manor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, and The Butterfield Health Care Group Inc., alleging they insufficiently provided nursing and related services to Lydia Cangiano.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges in January 2017, while a resident of defendants' facility, Cangiano was found lying on the floor next to her bed after suffering an unwitnessed fall. She was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, where she was admitted and diagnosed with a neck fracture. Cangiano died less than 10 days later, the complaint said.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants allegedly failed to protect Cangiano from neglect.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks more than $50,000, plus attorney fees and costs. He is represented by Michael Bonamarte and Bryan Ruggiero of Levin & Perconti in Chicago.

The Cook County Circuit Court Case No. is 2018L013893.
