CHICAGO — A special administrator of the estate of Leeona Hemphill is suing Manor Care Healthcare Service of Oak Lawn and affiliated entities, alleging wrongful death.

Patricia Hemphill filed a complaint on Jan. 16 in Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants, alleging they breached their duty to care for Leeona Hemphill's safety and were negligent in the treatment of her pressure ulcers.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges Leeona Hemphill was admitted at Manor Care Health Services-Oak Lawn without any pressure ulcers in January 2017, but was at high risk for the development and deterioration of pressure ulcers due to immobility and incontinence. The suit claims she developed a pressure ulcer and died in April 2017, from conditions caused or exacerbated by the negligent treatment of defendants.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks more than $50,000. She is represented by Christopher Cortese of Hurley, McKenna & Mertz in Chicago.

The Cook County Circuit Court Case No. is 2019L000535.
