CHICAGO — A couple is suing a physician and Presence Saint Francis Hospital, citing alleged negligence and loss of consortium.

Paul Person and Ellen Person filed a complaint on Jan. 18 in Cook County Circuit Court against physician M. Refat Baridi; Dupage Medical Group Ltd.; and Presence Saint Francis Hospital; alleging they provided medical care in a manner that placed plaintiff at risk for clot formation.

According to the complaint, between August 2016, and January 2017, the defendants provided medical care to Paul Person. Prior to January 2017, he was allegedly instructed to discontinue Xarelto, a medication used to prevent blot clots. Person claims this caused him to suffer injuries.

The plaintiffs allege the defendants failed to perform appropriate tests and procedures to diagnose Person's condition, leading to hospitalization and a delayed procedure to treat his injuries.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and more than $50,000 for each defendant. They are represented by John MacInerney of Hofeld and Schaffner in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court Case No. 2019L000692.
