McGuireWoods LLP issued the following announcement on July 26.

McGuireWoods Richmond associate Danielle Stokes, a member of the firm’s Real Estate & Land Use Department, has left McGuireWoods to begin a two-year faculty fellowship at the Syracuse University College of Law.

Stokes will teach a course on legal research and writing during the fall semester and another on environmental law in the spring. She also plans to pursue scholarly research in the field of real estate law. The fellowship is the first step toward a full-time law school teaching position.

“This is an exciting and well-deserved opportunity for Danielle,” said partner John Grieb, chair of the real estate practice. “She impressed us all with her dedication to our clients and we wish her nothing but success in her teaching career.”

Stokes was a summer associate at McGuireWoods in 2015 and joined the firm following her graduation from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2016. She represents businesses, developers and local governments in land use and real estate transactions. Stokes said the firm gave her an opportunity to do “cutting-edge legal work” from the moment she arrived, an experience that will benefit her for the rest of her career.

“I had to learn to manage and delegate on a high level very quickly,” said Stokes, whose last day with the firm was July 26.

“This opportunity has given me so many skills, personally and professionally,” Stokes said. “The people here have been phenomenal, from the staff to the most senior partner. It always felt like more of a home than just a place of business.”
