Barnes & Thornburg issued the following announcement on Aug. 21.
Barnes & Thornburg has added Jennifer A. Mendel as a partner in the firm’s Corporate Department in the Chicago office. Mendel, who focuses her practice in the areas of trusts, estates, and complex estate and family office planning, is the eighth attorney to join the Chicago office this year.
Mendel works closely with individuals and high net worth families on planning and implementing comprehensive estate and business entity planning, including wealth transfer and tax planning, asset protection planning, and trust and estate administration. She also advises clients on transfer tax compliance matters and manages the preparation and review of gift tax and estate tax returns.
“Jennifer has a wide range of experience in wealth management and estate and corporate planning that is valued by clients,” said Mark E. Rust, Chicago managing partner. “She will be instrumental in the growth of these sophisticated private client services that we deliver to clients in the Midwest and across the country.”
Mendel, who was previously at a sophisticated Chicago trust and estate planning law firm for over a decade, is a member of the Chicago Bar Association and a former co-chair of the Chicago Bar Association Young Lawyers Section’s Estate Planning Committee. She earned her J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law and her bachelor’s degree in political science and government from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
