Joe Tilson, co-chair of Cozen O’Connor’s Labor & Employment Department, will be honored by the Chicago Chapter of the Labor and Employment Relations Association (LERA Chicago) with a Distinguished Service Award on Thursday, December 12, at Chicago-Kent College of Law, 565 W. Adams, Morris Hall, beginning at 5 p.m.
Founded in 1947, LERA is the premier professional society for labor and management advocates, government officials, academics and neutrals — interested in all aspects of labor and employment relations — to network, share ideas and learn about new developments, issues and practices in the field.
“LERA Chicago is honoring Joe with a Distinguished Service Award for his strong advocacy and long-standing service to the labor and employment field and profession. He is a distinguished practitioner who is well regarded in all sectors of the labor relations community,” said Josh Ditelberg, president of LERA Chicago. “For many years, Joe has dedicated his time and resources to the continued betterment of our organization and the profession.”
Tilson is immediate past Chair of the American Bar Association’s Section on Labor and Employment Law - one of the ABA’s largest and most active sections. His practice entails representing employers in large scale employment litigation and labor arbitrations. In the past 35 years, Tilson has tried more than 150 jury and non-jury cases before a full range of courts, administrative agencies and labor arbitrators.
His clients include a number of the country’s largest public and private employers and Illinois’s most prestigious universities, whom he represents in both traditional labor law matters and employment litigation. Tilson is nationally known for his knowledge and success in handling large wage and hour class action cases and for his experience in collective bargaining involving large and complex bargaining units.
Tilson has been recognized as one of the top labor and employment lawyers in the nation, including being named as the Chicago Employment Law “Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers in 2011, 2014, 2017 and 2018. He has also been recognized each year since 2010 as one of the “Nation’s Most Powerful Employment Lawyers” by Human Resource Executive/LawDragon, has consistently achieved a Tier 1 Labor & Employment Ranking from Chambers USA and was honored in 2015 and 2016 by Lexology with their “Client Choice Award” for excellence in client service.
