Clark Hill PLC issued the following announcement on Jan. 31.

Clark Hill announced that Jason Schwent has joined Clark Hill as Senior Counsel in the Cybersecurity, Data Protection & Privacy Group.

“Adding Jason to our Cybersecurity group provides a senior level boost for our clients,” said Melissa Ventrone, Business Unit Leader of Clark Hill’s Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Business Unit. “Jason’s significant experience in software, information technology, cyber and privacy enhances our capacity to assist our clients with their growing needs in this space.”

Schwent’s practice is focused on technology with an emphasis on cybersecurity and privacy advisory services, breach response and software and intellectual property licensing. He advises and counsels clients on data privacy and security risk management issues. Schwent has assisted in gathering and coordinating teams of professionals to effectively respond to data privacy breach events. His clients include established and emerging technology companies, multi-state and multi-national manufacturing companies, as well as large Fortune 500 corporations.

“A major draw for me in joining Clark Hill is the firm’s unique ASSET360 Cyber & Defense Practice that combines the firm’s Cybersecurity and Data Privacy, Information Governance, Reputation & Crisis Management, and White Collar Crime & Government Investigations teams to provide a ‘single-team’ comprehensive approach,’” said Schwent. “This practice, along with Clark Hill’s national and global bench of lawyers will provide my clients with a much broader range of capabilities to assist them with their complex legal challenges.”

Schwent also has significant experience licensing technology, intellectual property, and software for all types of entities. With a background in intellectual property litigation, he brings strong technical knowledge to the process of drafting and negotiating licenses and other agreements. Additionally, Schwent assists clients by counseling them on various intellectual property, Internet, licensing, e-commerce, and privacy issues.

Prior to joining Clark Hill, Schwent was Of Counsel at Lathrop Gage in the Global Privacy, Cybersecurity & Data Protection practice, and prior to that was a Partner at Thompson Coburn LLP. He earned a J.D. from the University of New Hampshire Law School and a B.S. cum laude from Truman State University where he was a member of Alpha Kappa Lambda and the Blue Key Honor Society. Schwent is a Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US), issued by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and was voted in January 2020 as one of St. Louis' "Best IP Attorneys" by St. Louis Small Business Monthly in its annual "Best in Business" issue. He has been a member of Volunteer Lawyers and Accountants for the Arts for almost twenty years.
