BRYAN CAVE: BCLP Strengthens Banking Practice with New Partner in Chicago Office

H

Bryan Cave issued the following announcement on Nov. 16.

The international law firm Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner (BCLP) today announced that Paul Hoffman has joined the firm as a partner within the Banking Practice Group. He will be based in the Chicago office.

Hoffman has extensive experience in structuring, documenting and negotiating commercial loan transactions, including senior and mezzanine credit facilities, asset-based and cash flow credit facilities, acquisition financing and cross-border loan transactions. He also represents lenders in work-outs and reorganizations. Hoffman counsels clients in mergers and acquisitions, other corporate and commercial transactions, and general business matters.

“We work with banking clients around the world and Paul’s background and experience will be a huge benefit to our team and clients,” said Partner Jim McAlpin, global leader of BCLP’s Baking Practice Group. “His experience with complex banking issues makes him an excellent addition to our team and will provide added depth for our clients firmwide. We are pleased to welcome him to the firm.”

Hoffman joins BCLP from Vedder Price, where he was a finance partner. Earlier, he was assistant general counsel of Roadmaster Industries Inc. He also has served as an adjunct professor at DePaul University. Hoffman is a registered certified public accountant.

“Paul’s active banking practice, business acumen and broad experience across sectors make him a terrific addition to the Chicago office and an asset to our clients,” said Chicago Office Managing Partner Brian Sher.

In 2020, Hoffman was selected by his peers as a Leading Lawyer in Corporate Finance by Law Bulletin Media, which serves the Chicago legal and business communities. He is a frequent author on banking and finance topics.

This follows other recent high-profile hires, including London Data Privacy Partner Geraldine Scali; Los Angeles Partner Jean-Claude “J.C.” André, who will co-lead the firm’s Appellate & Supreme Court Group; and Real Estate Partner Pierre Popesco and six other lawyers (including three counsel) in BCLP’s Paris office, whose arrival makes the firm a major player in the real estate market in France and underpins BCLP’s strategy to grow its real estate sector worldwide. These continued efforts to recruit top lateral candidates support BCLP’s international growth plans under its new Project Advance strategic plan and growth initiative.
