BENESCH LAW: Benesch Deepens Chicago Litigation Bench

Law

Benesch Law issued the following announcement on Dec. 22.

The firm is pleased to welcome Carl Johnson, who joins the Litigation Practice Group as an associate.

Litigator Emily Newhouse Dillingham joined the firm as a partner in September.

“Clients increasingly turn to Benesch for representation in the full range of their litigation needs, from commercial disputes to bet-the-company matters. We’re continuing to recruit top tier litigation talent to address that demand,” said Gregg Eisenberg, Managing Partner and Executive Committee Member. “Adding to our already-deep bench of litigators is a top priority for the firm and we’re pleased to be able to attract such outstanding recruits.”

Johnson focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation and has represented clients in federal and state courts in matters involving shareholder and partnership disputes, as well as commercial contracts, business torts, and employment disputes.

Additionally, Johnson has the distinction of being named to The National Black Lawyers Association’s Top 40 Under 40 Attorneys in Illinois list for 2020. Honorees named to the prestigious list are selected on the basis of outstanding reputation, notable achievements and court outcomes, as well as nominations from colleagues, membership in national and state specialty lawyer organizations, and also rankings from national organizations.

Johnson began his career as an Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Chicago Law Department, where he focused on employment litigation in federal court. A versatile attorney, Johnson has since represented clients in a wide range of industries, such as finance, construction, real estate, and retail.

He graduated from Columbia Law School and Yale University.

Johnson joins the firm as it continues to earn accolades nationally. Since making its debut on the AmLaw 200 list in 2016, Benesch has advanced 27 places and is currently ranked at number 168.
