GREENBERG TRAURIG: Ian Ballon and Amy Kramer to Speak at 19th Annual Rocky Mountain Intellectual Property & Technology Law Institute

Greenberg Traurig issued the following announcement on May 26.

Ian C. Ballon and Amy L. Kramer, Intellectual Property & Technology shareholders at global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, will speak at the 19th Annual Rocky Mountain Intellectual Property and Technology Law Institute, taking place virtually June 3-4. Greenberg Traurig is also a sponsor of the event.

The IP Institute is the premier forum for bringing together intellectual property professionals from across the U.S. and beyond. The event will feature industry experts providing updates on IP fundamentals, including patent law, Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), trademark/Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB), copyright, licensing, trade secrets, data privacy and security, and internet litigation.

On June 3 at 10:05 a.m. MDT, Kramer will present the trademarks and copyrights breakout session, “What is your Intent? Bona Fide Intent to Use.” The session will focus on best practices related to intent-to-use trademark applications including determining when intent is bona fide and practice pointers related to filing, assigning, and challenging ITU applications.

On June 4 at 2:40 p.m. MDT, Ballon will present the program, “2021 Internet Law Update.” The session will discuss new developments in data privacy and cybersecurity class action litigation; data portability, screen scraping, and AI; and what companies can and should do to avoid or defeat California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) claims.

Ballon is co-chair of Greenberg Traurig’s Global Intellectual Property & Technology Practice and represents internet and mobile companies in the defense of cybersecurity, AdTech and data privacy class action litigation and in other IP and technology suits. He is the author of West's best-selling 5-volume treatise, E-Commerce & Internet Law: Treatise with Forms 2d Edition (Thomson West, http://www.ianballon.net/), which includes numerous chapters on data privacy and cybersecurity. Ballon also serves as executive director of Stanford University Law School’s Center for the Digital Economy and chairs Practicing Law Institute (PLI)'s annual Advanced Defending Data Privacy, Security Breach and Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) Class Action Litigation conference.

Kramer advises clients on the protection of their intellectual property rights and establishing effective domestic and international brand management best practices. She oversees every aspect of the brand management lifecycle – mark selection, trademark prosecution, trademark use/exploitation, licensing, and enforcement/oppositions. Kramer also has experience in a broad range of litigation relating to intellectual property, contracts, business disputes, and regulatory matters.
