H

Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith LLP issued the following announcement on May 25.

Lewis Brisbois is pleased to welcome Michelle (“Shelly”) Hall to its Chicago office as a partner in its Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice. Ms. Hall brings to Lewis Brisbois more than 15 years of experience in litigation, underwriting, and cyber claims management. She has worked in government, in-house positions at major corporations, and in private practice.

As a former cyber claims counsel for an international cyber insurance carrier, Ms. Hall has unique insights and experience to assist clients in preparing for and responding to data security incidents. As a cyber claims counsel, she handled hundreds of cyber claims ranging from small social engineering matters to one of the largest data breaches in history. Moreover, as a former underwriter for an international insurance carrier, she has substantial experience assessing risk, and uses that insight to assist clients in developing risk mitigation strategies in preparing for and responding to data security incidents.

In her role as a member of Lewis Brisbois’ Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice, Ms. Hall will advise companies in preparing for cybersecurity threats and handle both prebreach planning and data security incident response. She will also assist companies in complying with the requirements of state and federal breach notification and information security statutes.

Outside of her practice, Ms. Hall teaches Business Law & Ethics at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois and law school courses at the John F. Kennedy School of Law.

“We are fortunate to have Shelly on our team,” Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice Chair Sean B. Hoar said. “She has unique insights from her experience in the cyber insurance industry, and will provide additional expertise to our clients in preparing for and responding to data security incidents. Our team is looking forward to her insights and contributions.”

Ms. Hall echoed Mr. Hoar’s enthusiasm about her move to Lewis Brisbois, noting, “I am excited to join the Lewis Brisbois Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Team. They are recognized as the best in the industry, and I thoroughly enjoyed working with them in my role as a cyber claims counsel. Their passion is contagious, and I’m looking forward to working with them to enhance the privacy and security of client information, especially in such a dynamic, fast-paced industry.”

Similarly, Chicago Partner Blair Dawson noted, “I am pleased to have the privilege to work with Shelly again. She will be a great addition to the Data Privacy & Cybersecurity team and the Chicago office.”

Ms. Hall received her J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from Illinois Wesleyan University. She is admitted to practice in state and federal courts in Illinois.
