Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr issued the following announcement on Sept. 30.

In joining Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr’s Chicago office, James (Jamie) Stevens brings to the firm his skills as a general legal advisor to community associations on a range of issues related to their daily business operations. He joins the firm as counsel in the Condominium and Community Associations Practice.

In his work with the leaders of condominium and other common interest communities on governing documents, finances, litigation and transactional issues, Jamie provides them with perspective and broad knowledge in their legal matters. His experience includes: drafting easements, bylaws and declarations; advising on developer turnover matters and assessment collection; interpreting governing documents; and counseling on contract, dispute, and business concerns. In litigation, Mr. Stevens represents associations in covenant interpretation and enforcement matters and defends associations against various claims.

Aside from his role as counselor, Mr. Stevens relies on his familiarity with the Illinois Condominium Property Act and Common Interest Community Association Act to assist clients in transactional matters such as deconversion sales of entire properties, lending transactions in the community association marketplace, and development of condominium and common interest properties. His experience includes drafting and negotiating purchase and sale agreements and preparing documentation to establish and develop condominium properties. He also assists with distressed property redevelopment, financing and receivership actions to resolve properties in crisis situations.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jamie to Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr,” said David Sugar, chair of the firm’s Condominium and Community Associations Practice. “He has broad on-the-ground experience from his work representing more than 200 community associations in various stages of  their life cycles. He has a keen understanding of their legal challenges and strong record of advising them on matters and disputes arising from their formation, during their operations and, for some, through transitions to rental properties.”

Mr. Stevens earned his J.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law and his B.A. from University of Chicago.
