Fox Rothschild Gaming Team Secures Coveted Approval for South Suburban Chicago Casino Development

Fox Rothschild issued the following announcement on Dec. 10.

Fox Rothschild Gaming Law attorneys Donna B. More and Matthew S. Payne represented Homewood-East Hazel Crest and Wind Creek Hospitality in securing regulatory approval from the Illinois Gaming Board to develop a new casino off Interstate 80 in East Hazel Crest, Illinois.

After a competitive process that spanned more than two years, Wind Creek Hospitality was found “preliminarily suitable” by IGB to develop a casino and entertainment destination in the south suburban communities of East Hazel Crest and Homewood, IL.

The 70,000-square-foot casino will feature 1,350 slot machines, 56 table games, entertainment, dining, a 252-room luxury hotel, and will bring 800 jobs to the south suburban region. Wind Creek has a proven track record of success in developing high-quality and successful casino and entertainment projects.

Alabama-based Wind Creek Hospitality is part of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians, which runs 10 gambling operations in Alabama, Florida, Nevada, Pennsylvania and the Caribbean island of Curacao. The $440 million project, will feature the casino along with a 21-story hotel and an entertainment center.

More regularly represents casinos, video gaming terminal operators, manufacturers and distributors, game developers and other companies involved in the gaming industry in Illinois and nationwide. As the first general counsel to the IGB, she was involved in the process of legalizing gaming in Illinois and helped write the regulations governing the state’s gaming industry that remain in place.
