Law Office of Jones Day Reavis and Pogue issued the following announcement on Feb. 16.
The global law firm Jones Day has announced that seven former U.S. Supreme Court clerks from the October 2020 Term have joined the Firm's Issues & Appeals Practice. Jones Day has recruited 71 U.S. Supreme Court clerks since the October 2011 Term.
"U.S. Supreme Court clerks from five different Chambers have joined us in four different Jones Day offices, and we welcome them. Having worked for multiple Justices, they bring an outstanding breadth and depth of Supreme Court experience to our practice," said Traci L. Lovitt, leader of Jones Day's Issues & Appeals Practice. "These talented lawyers provide great value to clients through their understanding and application of case law, extensive analytical skills, and deep insights into the latest legal developments."
Noel Francisco, former U.S. Solicitor General and Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day's Washington Office, added, "Our lawyers who served as U.S. Supreme Court clerks are an important part of our Supreme Court practice, and these exceptional clerks will add to our formidable bench of practitioners."
The new arrivals, office locations, the Justices for whom they clerked, their law schools, prior clerkships, and previous roles are as follows:
- James Burnham has joined as a partner in the Firm's Washington Office. Mr. Burnham clerked for Justice Neil M. Gorsuch and graduated from The University of Chicago Law School. Prior to his Supreme Court clerkship, Mr. Burnham held roles at the U.S. Department of Justice including Counselor to the Attorney General (January–May 2020); Civil Division, Deputy Assistant Attorney General (August 2018–January 2020); and Senior Counsel (October 2017–July 2018); with The White House including Senior Advisor for Supreme Court Vacancy (part-time detail, July–October 2018); Senior Associate Counsel and Special Assistant to the President (January–September 2017); and was an associate in Jones Day's Issues & Appeals Practice (2010–2017).
- Brendan Duffy has joined as an associate in the Firm's Washington Office. Mr. Duffy clerked for Justice Amy Coney Barrett and graduated from Northwestern University School of Law. Prior to his Supreme Court clerkship, Mr. Duffy was an associate at a law firm in Washington (2019–2020); a Judicial Clerk for Hon. Amy Coney Barrett, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit (2018–2019); Hon. Paul Kelly, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit (2017–2018); and a Judicial Extern for Hon. Jeffrey Viken, U.S. District Court for the District of South Dakota (Summer 2015).
- Harry Graver has joined as an associate in the Firm's Washington Office. Mr. Graver clerked for Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh and graduated from Harvard Law School. Prior to his Supreme Court clerkship, Mr. Graver was a Judicial Clerk for Hon. J. Harvie Wilkinson III, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit (2019–2020).
- Madeline Lansky has joined as an associate in the Firm's Chicago Office. Ms. Lansky clerked for Justice Amy Coney Barrett (October 2020 Term) and Justice Clarence Thomas (October 2018 Term), and graduated from The University of Chicago Law School. Prior to her Supreme Court clerkship with Justice Barrett, Ms. Lansky was an associate at a law firm in Chicago (October 2017 – June 2018 and October 2019–2020); and a Judicial Clerk for Hon. William H. Pryor, Jr., U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit (2016–2017).
- Jack Millman has joined as an associate in the Firm's New York Office. Mr. Millman clerked for Justice Clarence Thomas and graduated from New York University School of Law. Prior to his Supreme Court clerkship, Mr. Millman was a Judicial Clerk for Hon. Ed Carnes, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit (2019–2020); an associate at two law firms in New York (2017–2019); and a Judicial Clerk for Hon. Diarmuid O'Scannlain, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit (2016–2017). Mr. Millman was also a Captain in the New York and Ohio Army National Guards (2006-2019) where he held various roles as an Air Defense Officer, including serving as an Executive Officer; Operations Advisor; and Platoon Leader.
- Krista Perry Heckmann has joined as an associate in the Firm's Washington Office. Ms. Heckmann clerked for Justice Neil M. Gorsuch (October 2020 Term) and Justice Anthony M. Kennedy (October 2017 Term), and graduated from The University of Chicago Law School. Prior to her Supreme Court clerkship with Justice Gorsuch, Ms. Heckmann was an associate at a law firm in Chicago (2018–2020); and a Judicial Clerk for Hon. William H. Pryor, Jr., U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit (2016–2017).
- David Phillips has joined as a law clerk, and will join as an associate pending bar admission, in the Firm's San Diego Office. Mr. Phillips clerked for Justice Samuel A. Alito, Jr., and graduated from Harvard Law School. Prior to his Supreme Court clerkship, Mr. Phillips was a Judicial Clerk for Hon. Laurence Silberman, United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit (2019–2020); and Hon. Steven Colloton, United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit (2018–2019).
