Of the various Latin phrases that most people recognize, stare decisis — loosely translated as “to stand by what is decided” — is probably not among them. Recent events involving the Supreme Court have changed that landscape. The speakers will address the concept behind stare decisis, why it matters in the practice of law, and instances where the Court has elected not to stand by what it had previously decided.
