Pomerantz and Partners Ranked by Benchmark Litigation as a Top Plaintiffs’ Securities Litigation Firm and Attorneys for 2023

For the third year running, Pomerantz has been recognized by Benchmark Litigation as one of the top plaintiffs’ securities litigation firms in the United States. Benchmark has also honored individual Pomerantz partners as litigation stars.

Following Benchmark’s “most comprehensive” review of the litigation market to date, featuring a reportedly record-breaking number of firms vying for rankings, Benchmark praised Pomerantz’s “prodigious capacity for cases and its tenacity to keep pursuing them.” Specifically, Benchmark cited the “eye-popping $3 billion settlement” with Petrobras, the Brazilian energy giant, that was achieved by Pomerantz as sole lead counsel for the class, along with lead plaintiff Universities Superannuation Scheme Limited.

The securities class action records broken in achieving the Petrobras settlement in 2018 still stand, including its position as the largest settlement in a decade, the largest settlement ever in a class action involving a foreign issuer, the largest settlement ever achieved by a foreign lead plaintiff, the largest settlement ever not to involve a restatement of financials and the fifth-largest settlement ever achieved in the United States.

Benchmark also noted the recent “substantial, newsworthy” efforts of Jeremy Lieberman and Emma Gilmore to hold Deutsche Bank accountable for misleading investors regarding deficiencies in its anti-money laundering protocols and its failure to properly monitor “highly unsavory figures that were kept on as clients,” including financier and accused sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, “because they generated millions in revenue.” In a significant victory for damaged Deutsche Bank investors, Pomerantz achieved a $26.25 million settlement to end the proposed class action in September 2022.

Among other achievements, Benchmark cited Jeremy Lieberman’s leadership in setting “ground-breaking precedent” for global investors in Perrigo. In this litigation, Pomerantz secured the first certification of parallel classes of domestic and international investors --  that purchased dually listed securities on the New York Stock Exchange and the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange -- since the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2010 decision in Morrison v. Natal Australia Bank barred use of U.S. securities laws to recover losses in foreign-traded securities.

Managing Partner Jeremy Lieberman and Partners Murielle Steven Walsh, Matthew L. Tuccillo and Emma Gilmore were also honored by Benchmark Litigation, once again, as Litigation Stars, in recognition of their accomplishments as “outstanding individuals” who are “highly regarded by their peers and possess a strong case record.”

Benchmark also named Murielle Steven Walsh and Emma Gilmore to their list of the Top 250 Women in Litigation, recognizing them as “women who have earned their place amongst the leading women litigators by participating in some of the most impactful litigation matters in recent history as well as by earning the hard-won respect of their peers and clients.”

For 2023, Partner Michael Grunfeld was recognized as a Future Star, joining Partner Austin P. Van and Partner and Head of Client Services Jennifer Pafiti, who again received this honor. Michael Grunfeld was also named to Benchmark’s 40 and Under Hotlist for 2022.
