Patrick Martin, managing director of Cozen O’Connor Public Strategies, has been elected to the Board of Managers for the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago.

“We are thrilled that Patrick has been elected to our Board of Managers,” said Dorri McWhorter, CEO of the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago. “Patrick grew up attending the Buehler YMCA in Palatine, and he impressed the entire board and executive team with his enthusiasm and commitment to serving the next generation of Y families in greater Chicago.”

Directing the firm’s government relations and public advocacy efforts in the Midwest, Martin splits his time between Cozen O’Connor’s Chicago and Washington, D.C., offices. His practice focuses on advising highly regulated companies across a variety of business sectors and he advocates for his clients before Congress, the White House, federal agencies, and state and local governments.

In his role at Cozen O’Connor Public Strategies, Martin has greatly expanded the representation of Midwest clients in the nation’s capital and has been repeatedly named one of the country’s “Top Lobbyists” by both “The Hill” newspaper and the National Institute for Lobbying and Ethics.

“Since joining Cozen O’Connor Public Strategies four years ago, Patrick has grown the Chicago practice into one of the largest government relations groups in Illinois and has further led the firm’s Midwest expansion. I am certain that he will draw on the same skills and relationships that have helped make his practice successful in advocating for and bringing fresh opportunities to the YMCA of Metro Chicago,” said Joe Tilson, former vice-chair of the YMCA of Metro Chicago Board of Managers and senior counsel at Cozen O’Connor.

Prior to joining Cozen O’Connor Public Strategies, Martin spent a decade working closely with his longtime mentor, former Indiana Governor and U.S. Senator Evan Bayh, in both government and at two AmLaw 100 firms.

In 2020, he was named to the annual “40 under 40” list published by Crain’s Chicago Business, recognizing his professional, civic, and charitable contributions. In addition, he was honored by the University of Illinois with a 2020 Outstanding Young Alumni award, celebrating alumni who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and leadership

Martin also serves on the board of directors of Rainbows for All Children, a national nonprofit organization based in suburban Chicago, focused on providing support for children navigating trauma or loss, and on the Junior Board of Catholic Charities in Chicago where he is a member of their Government Relations executive team.

An active member of the University of Illinois Alumni Association, Martin participates in local clubs in both Chicago and in Washington, D.C. — counseling students and interns on how to best pursue careers in government and public policy.

Martin graduated from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign (B.S. 2009, international, resource and consumer economics) where he was an Illinois General Assembly Scholar. He currently resides in Glen Ellyn, Illinois with his wife Caitlin and their three children.
