Dykema, a leading national law firm, announced the addition of Susan G. Feibus as Senior Counsel in its Business Litigation Practice Group, resident in the firm’s Chicago office. Prior to joining Dykema, Feibus operated her own firm for nearly six years. Before that, she was a partner at Ungaretti and Harris LLP for 15 years and, following a merger, a partner at Nixon Peabody LLP for two years.

A skilled trial and appellate lawyer, Feibus counsels clients and handles matters in practice areas that include commercial litigation, bankruptcy litigation, healthcare litigation, professional liability, and employment litigation. She also has extensive experience with alternative dispute resolution (arbitration and mediation).

Feibus represents publicly traded and mid-market companies, as well as high-net-worth individuals. Her clients cover a wide range of regulated industries—including financial, public utilities, healthcare, and gaming—and non-regulated industries—including real estate, hospitality, manufacturing, and retail.

“Susan’s reputation precedes her. We are as fortunate as we are excited to have her join the firm,” said Ed Weil, Leader of Dykema’s Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities special servicer group and a member of the firm’s Executive Board. “Her breadth of experience is an ideal fit for the firm. I know that both our attorneys and clients will benefit a great deal from Susan’s knowledge and wise counsel.”

Feibus recently completed two long-term federal district court appointments under the 50-year-old Shakman decrees, which prohibited the City of Chicago and elected officials in Cook County, Illinois, from hiring, firing, promoting, demoting, and other employment actions based on political affiliation. In 2016, Feibus was appointed the Shakman compliance monitor for the Cook County Assessor, and in 2019, she was appointed the Shakman compliance monitor for the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County. Both the Assessor and the Clerk of the Circuit Court were released from federal oversite in November 2022.

As Shakman compliance monitor, Feibus’ responsibilities required oversite of all employment actions; involvement in the creation of an employment plan for hiring; drafting and implementing employment-related policies and procedures to guard against unlawful political discrimination; training personnel on Shakman compliance; and periodic reports to the Court.

Feibus received a J.D. from the Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law and a B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania.
