James Cook has joined the Chicago office as an associate attorney. Cook focuses his practice on matters involving construction, insurance services, and governmental and civil rights. He also has experience with cases involving financial torts, banking, breach of contract, professional liability, toxic torts, probate, domestic relations, and bankruptcy. Cook has appeared in both state and federal courts and presented oral arguments before Illinois’ First District Appellate Court. Prior to joining HeplerBroom, he was an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Illinois in the Illinois Court of Claims, where he managed a high-volume caseload of tort and breach of contract claims on behalf of numerous Illinois agencies.
Cook received his J.D. from The John Marshall Law School, n/k/a UIC John Marshall Law School, graduating magna cum laude in 2017. He also holds a B.A. in Political Science and History from the University of Iowa. He is licensed to practice in Illinois and is admitted to the bar of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
