Benesch has added Thomas Hughes as a corporate partner in its Chicago office. Tom represents public and private companies, private equity firms, portfolio companies and family offices on a variety of U.S. and cross-border transactions, including negotiated and contested acquisitions, divestitures, leveraged buyouts, joint ventures, strategic investments and key commercial relationships. He also regularly advises clients on corporate governance, securities law and compliance matters.

Eisenberg. “He provides efficient, creative solutions to complex issues arising in public and private M&A deals in both the domestic market and internationally.”In his nearly 20-year career, Tom has practiced in the M&A groups of two prominent international law firms in both New York and Chicago and advised clients on hundreds of U.S. and cross-border transactions ranging in size from USD $1.00 to USD $160 billion, involving cash, stock, and other consideration. His experience spans a wide range of industries, with recent transactions in the consumer goods, health care/life sciences and manufacturing sectors.“I am looking forward to joining the incredible group of attorneys at Benesch,” added Tom, “The Chicago office is home to a deep bench of deal-making talent, and I look forward to learning from them, as well as sharing the knowledge that I have attained throughout my career.”Tom brings a unique perspective to his legal practice: prior to attending law school, Tom worked as an industrial engineer at Honeywell, where he led the design and development of its Global Electronic Operations Network (GEONET), an internet-enabled ERP system, and participated in strategic consulting projects at Boeing, Chrysler, and General Motors.He graduated cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School. Tom also earned his M.S.E. and his B.S.E. in Industrial and Operational Engineering, graduating magna cum laude from the University of Michigan. He began his legal career as an associate with Skadden in New York City, and joins Benesch from Baker McKenzie, where he was a partner in its Chicago office. He is licensed to practice in Illinois and New York.
