CHICAGO – A driver has filed a negligence lawsuit, claiming that he was injured in a motor vehicle collision when another driver strayed from his lane in the middle of a turn and struck his vehicle.
Plaintiff Barry Vaughn filed a lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court against defendant Joel Navas, citing allegations of negligence.
According to court documents, the complaint relates to a motor vehicle collision that occurred on May 1, 2023, at the intersection of Inner Lake Shore Drive and Ontario Street in the city of Chicago. The complaint claims that Navas was traveling northbound on Inner Lake Shore Drive and turning left onto Ontario Street, while Vaughn was parked on the north side of Ontario Street. Vaughn alleges that Navas failed to stay in his lane of traffic while making a left-hand turn, resulting in a collision.
Vaughn claims that Navas breached his duty to operate his vehicle in a safe manner and cites various forms of negligence, including driving at an unreasonable speed, failing to decrease speed when necessary, failing to give proper warning, and failing to keep a proper lookout.
Vaughn claims that he was severely injured in the accident and is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 for loss of normal life, loss of earning capacity, pain, suffering, mental anguish, and medical expenses, plus court costs and any other relief the court deems proper. He is represented by attorney Alex Gerteis of The Kryder Law Group, LLC, in Chicago.
