Greensfelder, Hemker & Gale, P.C. recently established a presence at mHUB, an innovative technology and manufacturing collaboration space in Chicago that recently launched expanded new facilities on the city’s Near West Side.

mHUB serves as a meeting point for startups, entrepreneurs, and manufacturers in a setting intended to foster innovation and the development of creative breakthroughs in HardTech, including everything from technology to hardware to consumer products, such as batteries, quantum and edge computing, electronics and sensors, cybersecurity, nanotechnology, agriculture technologies, and medical devices. It offers access to cutting-edge resources, mentorship, and industry networks, in a unique co-working space that enhances collaboration between startups, entrepreneurs, manufacturers, investors, and industry leaders. The new location within Chicago’s Kinzie Industrial Corridor increases mHUB’s prototyping and testing facilities and office spaces to become the largest independent manufacturing innovation center in the country.

As part of the mHUB community, the Greensfelder Intellectual Property Practice Group and Manufacturing & Industrial Industry Group bring a wealth of legal knowledge and insight to the table. With decades of representation of innovators, manufacturers, distributors, and retailers, the team has developed notable expertise in a variety of sectors. Their goals at mHUB are to help provide educational knowledge and build connections among Chicago’s founders, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders. Greensfelder’s mHUB attorneys are deeply experienced in numerous areas important to manufacturers -- intellectual property, environmental and toxic tort matters, employment and labor issues, product liability, transportation and logistics, to name a few.

Leading this initiative is Greensfelder attorney Ben Rotman from the Intellectual Property practice group. With a background in mechanical engineering and product development, Ben brings a solid scientific understanding to his intellectual property practice, which covers patent and trademark matters across diverse industries including medical devices, electro-mechanical gadgets, consumer products, and manufacturing processes. Beyond his legal work, Rotman contributes to community foundations and provides pro-bono assistance to inventors through the Chicago Kent Patent Hub.

In addition to Rotman, Greensfelder’s mHUB attorneys include Angela Kalsi from the Intellectual Property group, whose practice focuses on helping startups, creators, and growing companies establish, expand, and enforce their brands.  In the community, Kalsi and Rotman already assist small businesses at International Trademark Association pro bono legal clinics and as collaborators with the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program in Chicago.  They are excited to continue their work with the entrepreneurial community with a dedicated presence at mHUB.

This collaboration at mHUB comes on the heels of several years of effective partnership between Greensfelder and the Cortex Innovation Community in St. Louis. Building upon this track record of success, the Greensfelder mHUB team is eager to further enhance and expand their collaborative efforts by helping to foster innovation and growth within the Chicagoland HardTech landscape and beyond.
