A class action lawsuit accuses Geologie of allegedly falsely labeling its deodorant products as all natural, when they allegedly are not.

The complaint cites ingredients such as Polyglyceryl-10 caprylate/caprate, according to the lawsuit filed in Cook County Circuit Court on behalf of named plaintiff John Daly, identified as a Chicago resident. The lawsuit refers to the named plaintiff using the pronouns of "she" and "her."

"Polyglyceryl-10 caprylate/caprate does not exist in nature and cannot be considered natural," the suit states. "Plaintiff, like any reasonable consumer, understands that products labeled as natural do not contain synthetic ingredients."

The company, by allegedly falsely labeling products, is violating the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Businesses Practices Act, the lawsuit claims.

"By making false and misleading claims about the natural content of its products, Defendant impaired Plaintiff’s ability to choose the type and quality of products she chose to buy," the suit says. "Therefore, Plaintiff has been deprived of her legally protected interest to obtain true and accurate information about her consumer products as required by law."

The suit seeks an order requiring  the company to notify customers of the "unlawful, unfair, deceptive, and unconscionable conduct," plus monetary damages, legal fees and court costs.

The plaintiffs are represented by attorney Steven G. Perry, of the Law Offices of Todd M. Friedman P.C., of Northbrook.
