CHICAGO – A Cook County woman has filed a negligence lawsuit against a truck driver following a vehicle accident in Chicago. The plaintiff claims that the driver ran a stop sign and struck her vehicle, causing her serious injury.

Plaintiff Crystal Banks, a resident of Cook County, filed the lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court against Keith Thomas, individually, and WEC Energy Group, doing business as Peoples Gas, citing allegations of negligence.

According to court documents, the complaint relates to an incident that occurred on December 2, 2021, at the intersection of Jackson Blvd. and Kildare Ave. in Chicago. Banks alleges that she was heading eastbound on Jackson Blvd. when Jackson, an employee of Peoples Gas who was driving northbound on Kildare Ave., ran the stop sign at the intersection of Jackson Blvd., and collided with the plaintiff's vehicle.

The complaint asserts that Thomas failed to exercise reasonable care to ensure the safety of others and cites various acts of negligence, including failure to keep a proper lookout, to yield, to stop at a stop sign, to properly reduce speed to avoid an accident, and general negligence.

Banks claims to have sustained serious injuries in the accident. She is demanding a jury trial to seek damages for pain, suffering, expenses, and lost pages, plus court costs and any other relief the court deems proper.

The plaintiff is represented by attorneys Mark Weiner and Derek Dominguez of Hughes Socol Piers Resnick & Dym, Ltd. in Chicago.
