CHICAGO – A negligence lawsuit has been filed against two drivers following a vehicle accident in Chicago, claiming that they both struck a stopped vehicle from behind while trying to change lanes to get around it.

Plaintiff Benoise Slaughter, Jr. filed the lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court against defendants Dillsy Bradford and Lester Adams, citing allegations of negligence.

According to court documents, the complaint relates to a traffic incident that occurred on May 4, 2022, on Halsted St. in Chicago. Slaughter claims to have been heading northbound on Halsted St. and had come to a stop when Bradford and Adams, who were driving in the same direction, attempted to change lanes and both struck the plaintiff's vehicle from behind.

The complaint asserts that the defendants failed to exercise reasonable care to ensure the safety of others and cites various acts of negligence, including failure to keep a safe distance, failure to decrease speed, failure to properly keep their vehicles under control, failure to take evasive action, failure to provide proper warning, failure to keep a proper lookout, and changing lanes when it wasn't safe to do so.

Slaughter claims to have sustained serious injuries in the accident and is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 for pain, suffering, mental anguish, disability, disfigurement, property damage, and medical costs, plus court costs and any other relief the court deems proper.

The plaintiff is represented by attorney Anthony R. Elman of Elman Joseph Law Group, LLC, in Chicago.
