Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP attorneys Timothy G. Nickels and Christopher Griffin obtained a defense verdict on behalf of their client, a recently retired radiologist, in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois before Judge Melissa Durkin.
In this case, the plaintiff alleged that the defendant failed to report a widened mediastinum on the X-ray report, which led to an aortic dissection. Plaintiff asked the jury for $16 – $20 million. After a passionate closing statement by Nickels, the jury returned with a verdict for the defense.
This case is especially notable as this is the final trial verdict in the distinguished career of Nickels, who plans to retire at the end of the year. Practicing since 1982, he has devoted his practice to defending physicians and other healthcare providers in medical negligence cases and has gained substantial trial experience in complex business and commercial litigation.
Nickels has been an incredible leader in the firm and legal community, serving as a mentor to many associate attorneys and partners, frequently speaking at professional associations and conferences, and also serving as managing partner of Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP for 16 years.
