Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP attorneys William P. Greubel, III and Rebecca Charles secured a defense verdict at trial on behalf of their client, the estate of a prominent hospital vascular surgeon, in the Circuit Court of DuPage County, Illinois.
In this case, the plaintiff alleged that the defendant negligently performed an exposure for an anterior spine surgery, causing a vascular injury, that resulted in massive blood loss, an extensive hospital admission and corresponding medical bills, and pain. The case had some difficult challenges for our attorneys, including the physician’s death before the case was filed, and therefore, he was never able to provide his version of events.
Plaintiff asked the jury for over $3 million. After approximately 5 hours of deliberations, the jury returned a verdict for the defense. The case was tried before Judge Timothy McJoynt.
