CHICAGO — A driver was injured in a vehicle accident when a city employee allegedly ran the red light at the intersection of Pershing Road and Halstead Street in Chicago and crashed into him.
According to a complaint filed in Cook County Circuit Court, on March 21, 2023, defendant Avon Davis, a driver acting within the scope of his employment with the city of Chicago, was driving westbound on Pershing Road and allegedly ran a red light at the intersection with Halsted Street in Chicago and crashed into plaintiff Michael Hernandez, who was driving southbound on Halsted Street.
Davis is accused of various acts of negligence, including failing to observe traffic and nearby vehicles, failing to keep a proper lookout, failing to stop or alter the course of his vehicle to avoid a collision, failing to avoid the accident, failing to apply brakes, and failing to equip his vehicle with proper brakes.
Hernandez claims to have sustained severe injuries as a result of the accident. He is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 for pain, suffering, mental anguish, loss of normal life, and medical expenses, plus court costs and any other relief the court deems proper.
