Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP attorneys Steven E. Danekas, Jessica Levitt Acuna and Ryan M. Slovis secured a defense verdict on behalf of their clients, two cardiologists, in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois.

Plaintiff claimed that both doctors failed to monitor his wife’s oxygen saturation values during an  attempted transesophageal echocardiogram, causing hypoxia and death.

During the trial, Danekas and Slovis contended that the doctors properly monitored the patient’s oxygen saturation; that there was no prolonged, significant hypoxia; and that the patient’s overall medical condition in the setting of various pre-existing co-morbidities contributed to her abrupt change in mental and physical status, culminating in a pulseless electrical activity arrest.

Plaintiff asked the jury for $8.1 million. The jury returned a verdict of not guilty for both defendants. The case was tried before Judge Karen O’Malley.
