Rachel Vazquez, individually and as Special Administrator of the Estate of Juan Mesarina, along with Juan Mesarina Jr., Maritza Mesarina, Teena Billegas, Juan Villa, Evette Mesarina, Ingrid Mesarina & Gerardo Mesarina have filed a lawsuit against Thomas Alexander Kantas and his law office. The case is registered under ID 2024L003715 in the Circuit Court of Cook County and was filed on April 5th, 2024. The plaintiffs accuse the defendant of legal malpractice.
The plaintiffs allege that in March 2017, they retained the services of Kantas and his law firm to prosecute a personal injury claim and wrongful death case stemming from a motor vehicle accident that occurred on January 8th, 2017. This accident resulted in the death of Juan Mesarina who was hit by a vehicle driven by Anthony B. Jones while crossing an intersection at 5220S Cicero Avenue in Chicago.
According to the complaint, despite being hired to pursue a personal injury and wrongful death case against Anthony Jones, Kantas and his law firm failed to serve process on Jones over the course of three years and two months. The lawsuit also states that all transactions leading to this cause of action occurred in Cook County.
The plaintiffs are seeking damages for legal malpractice from Thomas Alexander Kantas and his law office. They claim that their loss was due to the defendants' failure to adequately perform their legal duties.
