In the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, plaintiff Robert Jiles has filed a class action lawsuit against DRT Transportation, LLC. The case, identified as 2024CH03121, was filed on April 11, 2024.

The lawsuit alleges that DRT Transportation unlawfully scanned and stored the biometric data of its employees without their consent. According to the complaint filed by Jiles' lawyer, this included collecting facial geometry data through biometric cameras for each worker.

The suit claims that the defendant failed to notify employees about where their biometrics were being stored or what could happen to this sensitive information. Furthermore, it alleges that DRT Transportation did not comply with the requirements of the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA), such as obtaining written consent from workers and maintaining a publicly available disclosure of how the biometric data would be handled and destroyed.

Jiles is seeking statutory damages and other equitable relief under BIPA on behalf of himself and other similarly situated individuals. He argues that these actions represent violations of privacy rights and are a breach of trust between employer and employee.
