Rachel Vazquez, Special Administrator of the Estate of Juan Mesarina, has filed a lawsuit against Anthony Jones in the Fifth Municipal District - Law Division court, case number 2019L065001. The case was filed on January 7, 2019 and is scheduled for a court date on June 13, 2024.
The plaintiff is represented by Thomas A. Kantas from the Law Office of Thomas A. Kantas, P.C. The lawsuit alleges that on January 8, 2017, defendant Anthony Jones struck pedestrian Juan Mesarina with his vehicle while driving southbound on Cicero Avenue at or near 52nd Street in Chicago, resulting in Mesarina's death.
The complaint accuses Jones of negligence including driving at an excessive speed and failing to decrease speed or sound his horn to avoid collision. Rachel Vazquez was appointed as the Special Administrator of Juan Mesarina's estate on June 19, 2018.
Vazquez is seeking judgment against Jones for damages exceeding $100,000 due to the loss of love, companionship and society suffered by Mesarina's surviving children: Juan Mesarain, Maritza Mesarina, Rachel Vazquez, Teena Billegas. Yvette Mesarina, Ingrid Mesaraina, Juan Mesarina and Gino Mesarain.
