In a lawsuit filed in the Appellate Court of Illinois, First Judicial District, plaintiff Iavor Stoyanov has brought a professional negligence action against his former counsel Al-Haroon Husain and Husain’s law firm, Himont Law Group. The case ID is 1-22-1434 and the filing date is April 15, 2024.
The plaintiff alleges that he retained Husain in 2010 and used defendants as his primary lawyer for several years. In 2012, Husain asked the plaintiff to invest $400,000 in a company known as Credit Union Mortgage Utility Banc (CUMU), which was allegedly misappropriated by the defendants. The trial court found that defendants fabricated their expert witness disclosures on three separate occasions.
Stoyanov seeks judgment for professional negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, conversion, and spoliation of evidence. He alleges that as of July 2021, he had not received any shares in CUMU and defendants refused to return his $400,000.
