In the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, plaintiffs Pedro Aponte and Kate Diaz, parents of minor Angelo Aponte, have filed a lawsuit against defendants Illinois State Trooper Kevin Bradley and unknown Illinois State Troopers. The court case ID is 1:24-cv-03041 and it was filed on April 15, 2024.

The complaint, presented by lawyers Brandon Brown and Andre M. Grant, details an incident that occurred on April 15, 2023. Pedro Aponte was driving northbound on Interstate 294 with his son Angelo securely fastened in a child safety seat when they encountered Trooper Kevin Bradley. Despite not displaying any suspicious or erratic driving behavior, Bradley followed Aponte closely for approximately seventeen minutes before executing a traffic stop.

Aponte and Diaz are seeking damages against the defendants for acts committed under color of law which they claim deprived them of their rights secured by the Constitution and laws of the United States. They are also seeking declaratory and injunctive relief to enforce their constitutional rights.
